The Moon is mentioned in the Bible 41 times, 32 times in the Old Testament and nine times in the New Testament. The Moon is mentioned in the Noble Quran 25 times.

In the Bible, Revelation 6:12, 8:12 and 21:23 say: 1) there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black and the whole moon became like blood, 2) and the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars and 3) the city has no need of the sun to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it and its lamp is the Lamb (respectively).

In the Quran, verse 7:54 says that that the sun, the moon, and the stars are compelled to Allah's order. Blessed is Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

This is the tenth article of the series (1-10) "The Moon in the Bible versus the Quran".

==============================================

Revelation 6:12 in four different versions of the Bible:

New International Version

12I watched as he opened the sixth seal. Blessed is Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

SHAKIR: surely your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six periods of time, and he is firm in power; he throws the veil of night over the day, which it pursues incessantly; and (he created) the sun and the moon and the stars, made subservient by his command; surely his is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

PICKTHAL: lo! Your Lord is Allah who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then mounted he the throne. he covereth the night with the day, which is in haste to follow it, and hath made the sun and the moon and the stars subservient by his command. his verily is all creation and commandment. blessed be Allah, the Lord of the worlds!

YUSUFALI: your guardian-Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority): he draweth the night as a veil o'er the day, each seeking the other in rapid succession: he created the sun, the moon, and the stars, (all) governed by laws under his command. is it not his to create and to govern? Blessed be Allah, the cherisher and sustainer of the worlds!

-------

The meaning of the verse:

Surely your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six days. Had He willed He could have created them in an instant; but the reason for His not having done so is that He wanted to teach His creatures to be circumspect.

Then presided upon the Throne, a presiding befitting of Him

He cloaks the night with the day, that is, He covers each one with the other: each following the other in swift pursuit.

And the sun and the moon and the stars have been made subservient; have been subdued, by His command, by His power.

Verily, His is, all, creation and the command, in its entirety.

Blessed, magnified, be Allah, the Lord, and the Master of the Worlds!

In other words, Allah has made the sun and the moon and the stars subservient by His command, by His leave.

His verily is all creation, the creation of the heavens and the earth

His verily is the commandment i.e. the judgment of people on the Day of Judgment.

Blessed be Allah, the Possessor of grace;

It is also said that this means: elevated is Allah; far exalted is Allah, the Lord of the Worlds!

He is the Master and Disposer of the Worlds.

-----------------------------------------------

Back to my question for the smart reader:

Is the Quran quoted from the Bible?

By: Prof.dr.
Backpacking can be fun. But the excitement and joy of the adventure might get marred due to some untoward happenings. A backpacker needs to be equipped with some basic essentials that can save them from certain unpleasant situations. A compass qualifies as one of those.

First and foremost, a compass can help a backpacker find their way through unknown territory. Especially, when poor weather conditions deteriorate visibility and the backpacker can see none of the landmarks, there is no friend like a compass.

No backpacker ever strays from the trail intentionally. But, a brief moment of oblivion and distraction can take one down a wrong fork in the trail. Then, as they turn around, they do not find the correct trail. They immediately become disoriented and feel completely lost. If they had been carrying a compass and knew how to read it, they have a great chance of finding their way back. They could also find their way with the help of a map, but a compass makes it easier and quicker. No matter how alert and attentive a backpacker be, long days of backpacking is bound to make one distracted at times. Anybody can lose the trail at such a moment. A compass helps you avoid wasting hours, roaming in the wilderness, trying to find your way back.

While your map helps you become accustomed to the trail, your compass helps you in following the right trail. Whenever your mind is at a crossroads about which way to take, you should work out your present position from the map, and then take a reading on the compass to be absolutely sure about the trail you should follow. Every trail might not be clearly defined. Hence, a backpacker should always use a compass and a map to ascertain the direction of their travel.

A compass can help a backpacker avoid the worst. Losing the trail amidst heavy fog, rain or snow can literally be fatal for a backpacker. The wilderness is not all about fun and adventure. It is also about danger. A sudden cliff or waterfall can endanger one's life at any moment. Losing the way more and more into a deep forest is also quite risky. A compass comes to one's help immensely in such a situation. Carrying a compass - and knowing how to read it - are the two best favors that a backpacker can do for himself while venturing out in the wilderness.

When a backpacker has lost the trail, the worst thing that they can do is panic. Panic and fear will only add to the bewilderment. After sounding the emergency whistle, the backpacker needs to get to the closest highest point and use their basic compass knowledge to narrow down their location. The knowledge that they are carrying a compass and that they know how to read it is going to prevent their confidence from flaggin.

Thus, a compass helps a lost backpacker immensely in finding their way back, and staying on the trail. A backpacker can avoid innumerable untoward incidents and dangerous outcomes during their trip, with the assistance of the ever-reliable compass.

By: Ivor Trumpet

One of the best times of the year to go to wilderness walking is winter; most of the poisonous critters that usually live in the wilderness take a winter slumber called hibernation. Snakes, spiders and scorpions are usually hidden away in their lairs while snow covers the entire ground and temperatures are lower than they are during the warm summer season.

However, enjoyment of walking in the wilderness still has to be made with the right and adequate equipment; among the different components that you should take with you as garments, include an adequate jacket that will keep your body protected from low temperatures and freezing winds, walking boots are a must.

Walking boots are designed to provide your feet with additional support when you are walking on uneven surfaces; this support will help protect your ankles from dangerous twists when you lose your footing. In addition, they will provide your feet with insulation from the cold weather.

Yet, when you are browsing and considering which walking boots to purchase, you need to consider the material they are made from. Some walking boots are crafted from burlap, the same kind that is used in tennis shoes; while this burlap is strong enough to provide some sort of protection, the best material is always leather.

Leather will endure the cold weather and will support walking in the snow; however, the downside of this material is that it will take a longer time to dry after a long walk in the snow, as opposed to burlap that will dry sooner. Nonetheless, burlap will be punctured and damaged in an easier manner than leather; consequently, you need to consider what type of ground you will be walking on and choose the adequate material for your walking boots.

One additional feature that you need to make sure that your walking boots have in order to help you walk securely in the wilderness, are rubber soles that have traction in them. Walking boots are very comfortable once you have broken them in; as a result, many people use them for their regular lifestyle. Moreover, the rubber traction sole will provide much more than just comfort. It is a great isolator and protector against icy patches and even electrical currents, just as long as you do not have the sole integrity compromised with tacks and nails buried in them.

Keeping your walking boots' integrity as safe as possible will save your life, and preserve the integrity of your feet. If you attempt to walk on an icy patch without the traction of a proper walking boot or with an overused walking boot that has lost its traction, you risk falling down and injuring yourself; such injuries can go from a mild bump to breaking your neck and dying.

In the same manner, a good pair of walking boots will protect your feet from frostbite that can cause you excruciating pain and the loss of parts, or your entire, foot. A good pair of walking boots might not be cheap but the lifespan of the shoes ranges between 3-6 years of continuous usage, so in the long run they will pay for themselves. Therefore, do not count beans when it comes to your life, safety and protection - it is just not worth it.

By: Ivor Trumpet

Exploring the great outdoors is definitely one of the best exercises that you can do; a low impact aerobic exercise, and most doctors will definitely agree that it is accessible to almost everyone regardless of age, general condition and even the experience that they might have exploring. Nonetheless, there are special considerations that have to be taken into account when preparing and planning to take part of this wonderful experience.

Naturally, coming into contact with Mother Nature means a lot more than simply parking your car, getting out and walking. One of the most common mistakes that neophytes in outdoor walking commit is that they select the wrong shoe to start their walks.

You definitely should plan in advance, and prepare yourself for such events, whether you are planning to go to uninhabited parts or even start walking in a small park located in your major city. The right foot apparel can make the difference between life and death, as well as prevent serious illnesses.

Why is footwear so important when traipsing around in the outdoors?

When you are exploring nature you are focused on seeing what is "up" at your eye level and above it, you will be probably watching the birds and enjoying the wonderful colour combinations that nature has to offer, and will pay little attention to where you are actually setting your feet. You can be accidentally stepping on a snake, a rock, a branch or anything that can cause you damage.

Take a rock for example; if you step on a rock you can lose your balance, fall down, and if you are on tilted ground, you can plummet over several yards and even break a bone or two. These accidents are precisely that, accidents, and as such you have the duty to yourself and the ones that love you to take care and be cautious. At the very least you could twist or sprain your ankle and make it difficult to walk.

In the case of encounters with poisonous animals such as snakes and spiders, you need also to take into consideration other animals that are just as deadly (but often not thought about when talk about boots): poisonous toads and even gators. The height of the boot will protect your foot and the first part of your calf from the reach of such animals; also remember that they do not attack because "they are evil" - they attack because they are hungry or feel threatened.

So, when buying walking boots, it is important that you take bear in mind that they have to be comfortable enough for you to be able to walk for a long time in them, sturdy to softly hug and cuddle your ankle, providing you with additional ankle support and strength when walking over uneven ground, and preferably made of leather.

Leather in your walking boots will prove to be a good choice, because it will present a harder surface for animals to bite through and in most cases, they will not be able to do so. Nonetheless, it is important that you avoid pig leather and focus on cow leather since this is the hardest one shoes can be made from.

Finally, never wear recently bought walking boots on your first camping or walk cross-country; just-bought or brand new boots will be uncomfortable to use and hard to wear, and can cause blisters and cuts on your feet, making walking excruciating.

By: Ivor Trumpet

Copyright (c) 2009 Dave Smart

Symbolic objects in our dreams have intrigued us since ancient times. The symbolism in both tribal lore and legends, and stories in the Bible, is related to the symbolism of dreams. I seek here only to give a little taste of this fascinating subject; by discussing TREES and TRUMPETS.

Most psychological terms like projection, complex, system and symbol are absent from the Bible, for the simple reason that they were absent from most ancient languages. Likewise they are absent from the myths and legends of tribal peoples. When the ancients needed to talk of such things, they had to turn to metaphor and symbolism. That was not so hard to do. Our dreams are full of symbolic imagery, alchemical colors and mythical creatures that seem to be a synthesis of life-forms that we know. A basic tenet of Jungian psychology is that these symbols are held in the collective subconscious are are available to all of us at the subconscious level.

The Bible mentions TREE some 160 times, and in the majority of these instances tree is symbolic. Olive, fig, oak, green and dry trees are mentioned requently. Trees often symbolize spiritual processes, and are often seen as a link between heavenly activities and earthly activities. The fruit of a tree often symbolizes the end result or the bottom line of the process. The processes symbolized are not necessarily morally good ones. For instance, GREEN tree is typically associated with idolatrous or otherwise sinful processes. Fig tree is mentioned not only in regards to figs as food, but as in material prosperity in general. In Norse mythology the YGGDRASIL or World Tree is associated with the process of creating, and eventually destroying, the world; although it is believed that it itself will survive that destruction. Yggdrasil connects the world of gods, of the giants, of mankind, and Niflheim, the world of the dead. It is morally neutral; creatures both good and bad are nourished, sheltered and facilitated by it.

Trees in dreams tend to have similar symbolism. A dry tree can represent a constant, or unchanging process; but this can also mean a stagnant or essentially dead one. A green tree can represent a growing, maturing process, but possibly a morally questionable one. Of course the tree you see in a dream may be just like one you are familiar with in waking life; or may be a synthesis of several you know in waking life; or it may arise from the universal imagery of the collective subconscious.

Trumpets in the Bible are of course often to announce heavenly events or interventions, as they do in folklore and tribal legends. The events are not necessarily morally good, as in the usurping Sheba (2 Sam. 20:1-20). Psychologically the trumpet symbolizes the point of no return; when events have come to an unstoppable momentum and inevitable conclusion. So it is in Norse mythology with Gjallarhorn, Heimdall's 'trumpet', (which was a long serpentine horn; it did'nt look much like a trumpet).

Mythicalism - a philosophy put forth by Santayana - holds that events and relationships in our lives are the re-enactment of tribal legends, and/or of Bible stories. The symbols in these legends and stories can combine in a great many ways. For instance the story of Joshua and Jericho is one of walls - the setting of boundaries - and of the process of tearing down those walls - the dissolving of boundaries. Just as in astrology where Virgo - the boundary creator - and Pisces - the boundary dissolver - are opposites; so in our lives there has come, or will come, a time that conflicting parts of ourselves will try to build and strengthen boundaries, and dissolve those boundaries. The trumpets in the Bible story suggest that the time will come when we have passed a point of no return. Several things in the story occur in quantities of seven: trumpets, number of times marched about the city, etc.: these bring the symbolic qualities of the number seven; it will be a time of completion, of rest, with its ever- present danger of stagnation. The harlot in the biblical story suggests a situation where what we think as morally wrong will be, in this case, right.

Using dreams to understand our life patterns

Jungian psychology combines with the philosophy of mythicalism, championed by Santayana, which maintains that patterns of our lives and relationships are in effect re-enactments of ancient cultural and tribal legends, translated into the scenarios of our modern age. In coaching, clients explore parts of themselves, using the archetypal interactions of Biblical stories and of cultural-tribal lore and legends as points of reference. This is the value of dream work in coaching, because even though the substance of our dreams seems to have no relationship to the events of our day-to-day lives; through the symbolism of dreams which is also the symbolism of tribal lore and of Bible stories, they do.

By: Dave Smart

A holiday is a period when a person takes some time off from their hectic schedule or daily life, to give time to their loved ones or family. Moreover, holidays are taken in order to give time to oneself, and to ponder about the different problems going on in one's life. There are different reasons to go on a holiday, and the reason also defines the holiday destination. While going on a holiday, a person should be careful in terms of the things that they carry with them. There are a few more things that are equally important while taking a holiday, and these are medicines and proper clothes. And while we're talking of proper clothes, GoreTex jackets are one item of clothing that often prove to be very helpful to carry while traveling in winter.

GoreTex jackets are the ones that are made of breathable, wind proof and water proof fabric. It is the official trademark of W.L. Gore and Associates. There are many benefits to taking GoreTex jackets with you while going on a holiday. Firstly, when going on a holiday, one problem that a person often faces is unpredictable and persistent rain at unexpected times; GoreTex jackets are essential as they are made of waterproof material.

GoreTex jackets are also useful in order to save the amount of clothes being taken on a holiday; they are not bulky and are very light to wear. The biggest advantage of GoreTex jackets is when a person is involved in some physical work or exercise - GoreTex jackets are made of breathable fabric, and so all the sweat from the body is drawn away by the jacket, removing the moisture from the body. The jackets are a great help if, after physical work, the person can't change their clothes. GoreTex jackets can also be worn while walking, jogging or undertaking some mild exercise, but the jackets are specially designed for hot and humid conditions.

GoreTex jackets are for all seasons, and are available in the market between $190 and $300. Because of their price range, these jackets are also known as cheap backpacking gear. The jackets are easily available in the market without any trouble, and they look good - even for casual wear. The jackets are very durable, making them dependable as they last for a long time and won't lose their quality even after repeated washing. The jackets don't require a lot of care, and can do wonders when you're caught in winds that are blowing a gale as they are durably waterproof, windproof and extremely breathable. The material used in the manufacture of the jacket prevents the air from even entering the jacket. So, even at the time of cold winds blowing, a person feels warm inside the jacket with their body heat. GoreTex jackets are a great advantage, considering the fact that they take less space and cover the use of many other clothes. It's one of the best items for backpacking or while going on a holiday.

By: Ivor Trumpet

==============================================

Revelation 6:12 in four different versions of the Bible:

New International Version

12I watched as he opened the sixth seal. In this series, these questions are chosen randomly.

---------------

In verses 27:86- 88 of the Noble Quran, Allah asking mankind this question: Do they not see that Allah has made, created, appointed the night that they, like others, may rest therein, and the day bright, for sight so that they seek their livelihood? Surely in that there are signs, indications of His power, exalted be He, for a people who believe, for people who have faith.

Then the verses remind man with the Day when the Trumpet will be blown then everyone will come to Allah on the Day of Judgment abased and humbled.

---------------

Verses 27:86- 88 of the Noble Quran give the question of this article and talk about it

The meanings of the verses 27:86- 88

Verse 27:86 says:

Do they not see that Allah has made, created, appointed the night that they, like others, may rest therein, and the day bright, for sight so that they seek their livelihood?

This means that Allah has made the day for people to see in it, so that they may go about their business therein.

Surely in that there are signs, indications of His power, exalted be He, for a people who believe, for people who have faith.

They, the believers are singled out for mention because they benefit from such signs in their faith, in contrast to the disbelievers.

Verse 27:87 says:

And remind them of the Day when the Trumpet will be blown,

This is the blowing of death, and all who are in the heavens, the angels and the earth of created beings will be so frightened, terrified and will die,

Save him whom Allah wills from among the dwellers of heaven e.g., Gabriel, Michael, Isr?f?l and the Angel of Death; these are the top Angels, for they will not die upon the first blowing of the Trumpet, but they will die after that.

And all i.e. the dwellers of the heavens and earth will come to Allah on the Day of Judgment abased and humbled.

Verse 27:88 says:

And you see O Muhammad upon the first blow of the trumpet, the mountains, you notice them, at the moment of the Blast, supposing them to be still, stationary in their place, because of their tremendous size, while they drift like passing clouds, like the drifting of the rain when it is blown around by the wind, in other words, they the mountains will be drifting in like manner until they eventually fall to the ground, whereby they are flattened before becoming like tufts of ‘wool’ [ Read Verse 101:5] and then ‘scattered dust’ [Read Verse 56:6].

This is Allah's handiwork; He has perfected everything that He has made.

Truly He is aware of what you do namely, the disbelievers in the way of disobedience and the believers in the way of obedience.

---------------

Verses 27:86- 88 in different translations:

Verse 27:86

QARIB: have they not seen how we have made the night for them to rest in and the day to see? surely, there are signs in this for the nation who believe.

SHAKIR: do they not consider that we have made the night that. they may rest therein, and the day to give light? most surely there are signs in this for a people who believe

PICKTHAL: have they not seen how we have appointed the night that they may rest therein, and the day sight-giving? lo! therein verily are portents for a people who believe.

YUSUFALI: see they not that we have made the night for them to rest in and the day to give them light? verily in this are signs for any people that believe!

Verse 27:87

QARIB: on the day the horn shall be blown all who live in the heavens and earth will be terrified, except those whom Allah wills. all shall come to him humbled.

SHAKIR: and on the day when the trumpet shall be blown, then those who are in the heavens and those who are in the earth shall be terrified except such as Allah please, and all shall come to him abased

PICKTHAL: and (remind them of) the day when the trumpet will be blown, and all who are in the heavens and the earth will start in fear, save him whom Allah willeth. and all come unto him, humbled.

YUSUFALI: and the day that the trumpet will be sounded - then will be smitten with terror those who are in the heavens, and those who are on earth, except such as Allah will please (to exempt): and all shall come to his (presence) as beings conscious of their lowliness.

Verse 27:88

QARIB: and you will see the mountains which you think to be firm pass by like clouds. (such is the) making of Allah, who has created everything well. he is aware of the things you do.

SHAKIR: and you see the mountains, you think them to be solid, and they shall pass away as the passing away of the cloud-- the handiwork of Allah who has made every thing thoroughly; surely he is aware of what you do

PICKTHAL: and thou seest the hills thou deemest solid flying with the flight of clouds: the doing of Allah who perfecteth all things. lo! he is informed of what ye do.

YUSUFALI: thou seest the mountains and thinkest them firmly fixed: but they shall pass away as the clouds pass away: (such is) the artistry of Allah, who disposes of all things in perfect order: for he is well acquainted with all that ye do.

By: Safaa Abdel-Aziz

==============================================

Revelation 6:12 in four different versions of the Bible:

New International Version

12I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red,

New American Standard Bible

The Sixth Seal--Terror

12I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood;

English Standard Version

12When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood,

King James Version

12And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

In the interpretation of this verse, it is said:

"After a great earthquake the sun turns black and the moon red like blood, the stars fall from the sky, the sky itself crumples like a piece of paper, the mountains slide into the valleys and islands sink into the ocean."

---------------

Revelation 8:12 in four different versions of the Bible:

New International Version

12The fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them turned dark. He throws the veil of night over the day. Swiftly they follow one another. The sun, the moon, and the stars are compelled to his order. His is the creation, His is the command.

Blessed be Allah, the Possessor of grace;
